Every year we celebrated Christmas at my grandparents house the weekend before Christmas. This is my grandmother’s Christmas punch recipe. Each family member would bring a home cooked dish to the holiday gathering.
My mom always made baked beans, holiday punch and a festive ice ring to go with it. (Just pour water into a Bundt pan, a few inches at a time along with layers of fruit.)

How to make Christmas Punch
- Step 1: Squeeze the container of frozen lemonade into a large drink dispenser or punch bowl.
- Step 2: Add the cranberry juice cocktail and pineapple juice. Gently stir to combine. Add lemon-lime soda just prior to serving. Add plenty of ice or an ice ring.
- Step 3: Serve over ice and garnish with slices of oranges and fresh or frozen cranberries.

I love serving some fun drinks when I entertaining during the holidays. For hot drinks, I love making mulled apple cider. Which is just adding Aspen mulling spice to a gallon of apple cider, heating it up over low-medium heat. Then serving warm (keep it warm in a crockpot or stainless steel airpot.)
For cold drinks, I serve this Christmas punch and always get rave reviews! Christmas punch is refreshing and the perfect blend of tart and sweet. It also looks beautiful on your buffet table. Your punch will be ready to serve in a matter of minutes!
How to make an Ice Ring for Punch
- Step 1: Pour a little water into the bottom of a Bundt or fluted tube cake pan. Add slices of orange slices, lime slices, and cranberries. Freeze until set.
- Step 2: Working in layers, continue to add water a little at a time and layers of fruit until the pan is full. Place back in the freezer with each layer added.
- Step 3: Let the ice ring freeze for several hours or overnight to fully set.
- Step 4: Remove from the pan– Invert the pan and run hot water on the exterior of the pan to easily remove the ice ring. Set on a sheet pan and keep in the freezer until you are ready to use.
This Christmas punch is super easy to make and not too sweet. Be sure and serve over plenty of ice. To make holiday punch with sherbet, simply add a scoop of orange sherbet to each glass before you pour the holiday punch. How delicious does that sound?!

Recipe FAQs
Get some faux ice cubes and fill the bottom of your drink dispenser with them, just up to the nozzle. This will prevent any fruit pieces, etc. from clogging the nozzle and keep your drinks flowing nicely! Find them on Amazon.
Yes! Want to make this an adult beverage? Add ½-2/3 cup of rum or vodka to the recipe.

May I use Cran-Pomegranate instead of plain Cranberry juice?
Jessica Robinson says
Absolutely!! That would taste amazing!
Ashley Amarasuriya says
Can I substitute the pineapple juice- if so what would you suggest?
Jessica Robinson says
Hello Ashley,
You can substitute orange juice or even mango nectar…. that would be delicious too!
Hannah says
Only one can of Sprite? Not a liter?
Jessica Robinson says
We usually only use one can of sprite, but you are welcome to use a liter of soda if you prefer. It will just add more fizz.
Pauline Beth Peterson says
can I use ginger ale?
Jessica Robinson says
Yes!!
Kim says
Appreciate the useful comments. Wanting to add alcohol for party. Is there an alcohol or combination most recommended for this? Want to avoid making too sweet. Thank you!
Jessica Robinson says
Kim,
You can use either a bottle (750 ml) dry white wine or 1 cup brandy or triple sec.
Angela says
Hi. What is the most popular alcohol added? I’m torn between Malibu pineapple or champagne. Thanks!!
Jessica Robinson says
I would say Malibu rum (pineapple would be great too!) or we add a bottle of dry white wine. Some people prefer whiskey. It’s really all a personal preference.
Debra Patten says
Can you add champagne to this recipe. I am going to a party and supposed to bring a adult punch for 15 people and your recipe sounds delicious.
Jessica Robinson says
Absolutely! I would make the punch and then add the champagne last minute so it doesn’t lose it’s fizz.
Krista says
I see it says this serves 12 people… but do you know how big of a container you used for it? I have a 2.3 gallon drink dispenser I want to use for a Christmas in July party! Just need to know if I should double or triple my recipe!
Jessica Robinson says
Hello Krista,
I think to fill that container you’ll need to double the batch. One batch should roughly be 1-gallon pouring pitcher.
Angela says
Made this for Christmas, my large family do not drink alcohol, so they all loved it!! Tart, not too sweet, very refreshing. My 2 adult sons have requested it for our next family gathering!
Jessica Robinson says
Angela,
So happy to hear that everyone loved this punch recipe!
Danielle says
Looks delicious, but can I use 7up instead of sprite ?
Jessica Robinson says
Danielle,
Of course you are welcome to use 7-up instead of Sprite!
Shay says
This was a easy and veryyyy tasty punch!!! I did add pineapple rum for the adults about 1cup. It wasn’t strong so next time I am thinking of adding a little more rum or can you add Grand Marnier and rum??
Jessica Robinson says
Shay!
Oh thank you so much! Pineapple rum sounds beyond delicious to this punch!
Sharon says
Tasty Punch and it was a hit! Very easy to make.
Jessica Robinson says
Thanks Sharon! Glad to hear you enjoyed this recipe!
Laura Klope says
This recipe sounds sooo good, just wondering about the sprite, is one can correct or is it supposed to be one 2-liter? (Sorry, I haven’t made punch in YEARS and I don’t want to get my ratios wrong). Thanks!
Jessica Robinson says
Hi Laura,
Yes it’s one can of Sprite. But you can add more cans or a full bottle if that’s what you prefer and you want more bubbly. My mom always liked cans of Sprite because they stay fresher, longer.
Cindy says
If I want to add Malibu rum, how much should I use?
Jessica Robinson says
Hi Cindy,
Probably about 3/4 cup to 1 cup of rum. Oh how good does that sound!?
Diana Ossi says
Is that a small or large can of frozen lemonade?
Jessica Robinson says
There’s usually only one size of frozen lemonade. 12-ounces
Heather says
Does this turn out to be around 1 gallon?
Jessica Robinson says
Hello Heather,
Yes, it should be around 1 gallon. You’ll want room in whatever you serve it to have plenty of ice too.
Melissa says
This looks tasty! Just for clarification, the photo shows a large can of pineapple juice (looks like 1.36 L, maybe?) but the recipe says a 14 oz. container. Should I use the entire 46 oz. can/container (which I think is 1qt. 14 fl. oz.) or should it be only 14 oz. of pineapple juice?
Jessica Robinson says
Melissa,
The directions/recipe is correct. It is a 14-ounce container of pineapple juice. However, if making a larger batch you would use more.
Alice Marie Lucas says
I can’t find a 14 oz can of Doles pineapple juice anywhere, even on the website. LoL Not sure if it exists. As the photo does show a larger can 1.36 liter, are you sure that it’s just 14 Oz. Thanks. Just can’t find it anywhere. Lol
Jessica Robinson says
Hello Alice,
Some grocery stores carry the 14-ounce can. But, you can always use a glass measuring cup to measure ounces (8-ounces in a cup) and you can certainly adjust the pineapple juice to your liking.
Jessica says
I used the entire 46 oz. container of pineapple by mistake and it was delicious. I wouldn’t change a thing. My family loved it! I also added 1 1/2 cups of Malibu. Now it’s a family favorite at parties. Thank you!
Jessica Robinson says
Thank you! Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Laura says
This was a big hit at a recent dinner party. Delicious – not too sweet and I loved the tartness. Can’t wait to make this again…maybe with a little rum next time. ;o)
Jessica Robinson says
Laura,
Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me! I am thrilled that you loved my grandmother’s punch recipe!
Diane mattman says
This recipe shows 12 calories per serving…..I think this is incorrect.
Jessica Robinson says
Dianne,
Calories are calculated by the recipe card. Sometimes they are not accurate. I’ll re-check it for you. But, everything in moderation. This punch recipe does make a lot- for at least 12 servings. If not more.
