What you’ll need
- Apple cider – For the best apple flavor, you want fresh apple cider, not apple juice. Purchase apple cider from a local apple orchard or in the refrigerated section in the produce section at the grocery store.
- White wine – A dry white wine is perfect for apple cider sangria. It doesn’t need to be super expensive. We usually use Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio.
- Brandy – This flavorful addition gives this sangria recipe an extra depth of flavor. Don’t leave it out! You can also use ginger or apple brandy in this sangria recipe.
- Fall fruits – Use your favorite seasonal fruits like apples, pears and oranges. Cut into chunks, place in a glass bowl and toss with fresh lemon juice so the fruit doesn’t brown!
- Cinnamon sticks – Adds a wonderful fall spice to this sangria. Add a few to each glass for garnish. It’s hard to find them in a large container in the grocery store– so order here!
- Fizz – Add a touch of lemon-lime soda, ginger ale or club soda right before serving. That little bit of fizz makes this apple cider sangria so tasty.
How to make Apple Cider Sangria
- Chop apples and fruit – Wash, core and chop apples. Cut oranges into thick slices or chunks. Toss with lemon juice to prevent browning.
- Pour into pitcher – Pour in white wine, apple cider and brandy. Stir to combine.
- Let soak – Refrigerate overnight or for a minimum of 2-4 hours. This lets the fruit soak up the wine and intensifies the flavor.
- Top with soda – For a little pop of fizz, top with lemon-lime soda, ginger ale or club soda just prior to serving.

Apple Cider
The best apple cider is located at local apple orchards or farms in the fall and winter. Fresh apple cider is fresh pressed, unrefined and has apple sediment in the bottom. More often than not, apple cider is pasteurized.
However, you can generally find it at most major grocery stores, BJ’s and other wholesale clubs in the refrigerated section in produce.
You do not want to use apple juice, as it’s been filtered too much and will not have the most apple flavor.
Mulled apple cider
- 1 gallon apple cider
- 1 container Aspen mulling spice
Pour into a large saucepan or pot over low-medium heat. Stir occasionally as it warms up to combine the mulling spice. Serve warm (keep it warm in a crockpot or stainless steel airpot.)
Use a plastic funnel to easily pour into the coffee airpot. This is the best way to serve hot drinks for a holiday party!
Recipe FAQs
When choosing a white wine for sangria, your best option is a dry, crisp fresh white wine such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc or Pinot grigio.
It’s best to let sangria rest overnight in the refrigerator, or at least for several hours. This lets the fruit infuse the wine and flavors marry.
Sangria will last in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.

Recipe Notes
Apple Cider Sangria
Tossing the apples with lemon juice will help prevent them from browning. There is no need to drain any excess lemon juice, as it will only add to the flavors of the sangria. We love using Granny Smith apples and Honeycrisp, Cortland, McIntosh or Macoun apples. This gives you a pretty look with red and green apple chunks. Find apple cider from a local apple orchard. OR locate it in the refrigerated section in the produce section at most grocery stores. The longer you are able to let sangria sit, the more intense the flavors will be. Make ahead and refrigerate overnight. This lets the fruit soak up the wine and intensifies the flavor. Add soda prior to serving, or it will not be fizzy. If hosting a party, make a big batch. Add ice cubes to the drink dispenser to keep it well-chilled.Nutrition
