And be sure and try my grandmother’s recipe for Holiday Punch. That is probably one of my favorites and reminds me of my holidays at my grandparents house.
Why this recipe works
- So quick to throw together! Making it one of the easiest holiday side dishes ever!
- Made with simple ingredients readily available at your local grocery store.
- This Thanksgiving side dish can be made ahead of time! Prepare as directed, but leave the crispy onion topping off until you cook. Sprinkle them on right before you cook the casserole so they stay fresh.
What you’ll need
- Green Beans: While many Green Bean Casserole recipes start with canned green beans, I prefer to use fresh green beans and partially cook them.
- Cream of Mushroom Soup: Campbell’s Green Bean Casserole was a staple in our household and many for the holidays and Sunday dinner. Cream of Mushroom soup is the creamy base for this delicious side dish.
- Canned Mushrooms: I’ve added more mushrooms to this Classic Green Bean Casserole to make it even more full of flavor! Drain the canned mushrooms before adding.
- Crispy Fried Onions: French’s Crispy Fried Onions are essential to this dish. Find them in the canned vegetable aisle in your local supermarket or order on Amazon.
- Milk: Whole milk makes this casserole dish creamy and stay moist. (Add a few splashes of additional milk if needed during the cooking process!)
