The new year is upon us. It’s going to be a great year! I’ve come to realize that there are a few things this year I need to accomplish. Ride my horse more, lose weight, love more, eat better, continue to develop and photograph recipes, and most importantly surround myself with positive people who help motive me. All of these things will help improve the life we live.
Times are obviously much different than when we grew up. But, coming to North Carolina has given us the opportunity to create a life very similar to the one we knew as kids for our own children. Pace is much slower, much like 30 years ago in Connecticut. We live in a very rural area. Small, Mom & Pop style grocery stores and meat markets are still thriving. Many are generations old. When we were little, my Mom had a small business out of our farmhouse. She made wedding cakes, baked goods and farm-fresh breads. Everything was made from scratch, with lots of love. My Dad took a simple paper order form to work with him each week. At the end of the week, she had probably a dozen or so orders he would deliver. That gave her a little extra money and sparked her own self-taught genius baking business. Her ability to create such amazing works of art was astounding. Hand-painted, edible sugar flowers. Hours and hours many times to create over-the-top wedding cakes were beyond her time. My Mom inspired me to create such a business at home. This gives us a little extra income to buy groceries, pay board for my horse and anything else we might need. I never dreamed we would ever move to North Carolina. But God guided us here. For many reasons.
There are so many wonderful, made from scratch things you can make. God gave so many of us wonderful gifts. The trick is figuring out what gift God gave you. Use that incredible gift to better your family and the ones that surround you with love. This week I’m working on many upcoming blog posts and some new recipes for my second cookbook. I’ve been blessed by God with the creative talents of my parents and the need to teach my abilities to others. Boyajian Inc. sent me some amazing essential oils to cook and bake with. I’m baking my little heart out this week with some goodness from them! More to come soon!
