Caramel apples one of my favorite fall treats. But, we can rarely finish an entire apple by ourselves. So these easy to make caramel apple slices are the perfect option!

Caramel Apples from scratch make the perfect holiday gift. Pack them in these food safe bags for gifts.
I love to use a tart apple for this caramel apple slices recipe. Use an apple variety that’s in season in your area, such as Cortland, McIntosh, Macoun, or Granny Smith.
You can either make your own homemade caramel or use store-bought caramels that are wrapped and melt them. Once the caramel chocolate apple slices are fully dry, you can bag them in food-safe baggies, tie up with either a twist tie or piece of baker’s twine.
How to make Caramel Apple Slices
Step 1: Wash the apples and slice into ½ to ¾-inch thick slices. Place them in a large bowl with ¼ cup of lemon juice. Use a spoon to gently toss them around and coat each side with lemon juice. (This will keep the apple slices fresh!)
Step 2: Carefully use a sharp knife to make a cut at the bottom of each apple slice. Insert a food safe wooden stick. Use a clean dry paper towel to dry off any excess lemon juice. Set the apple slices on a half sheet pan lined with parchment paper.
Step 3: While you prep the apple slices, use a double boiler to melt the chocolate. Warm the caramel over medium to low heat in a sauce pan.

Step 4: Place the peanut butter in a microwave safe glass measuring cup. Microwave in increments of 30 seconds until the peanut butter is warm and can easily be spread on the apple slices.
Step 5: Place the apple slices on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Spread the peanut butter generously across each apple and place into the refrigerator for 15 to 30 minutes for the peanut butter to set.
Step 6: Dip the apple slices into melted chocolate. Shake off any excess chocolate. Place the apple slices onto a half sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Add various toppings while the chocolate is still warm. Place the half sheet pan into the refrigerator to set the chocolate and toppings.
Step 7: Drizzle warm caramel and melted white chocolate on apple slices. I like to add white chocolate as just an added decoration. Place it into a disposable pastry bag or plastic baggie with the corner cut off to pipe it nicely onto the apple slices.
Place the sheet pan back into the refrigerator for 1-2 hours to set the chocolate. They can be bagged up once the chocolate is set.
How to Melt White Chocolate
Place white chocolate baking chips in a microwave safe measuring cup or bowl. Microwave the chocolate for 30 seconds. Stir the chocolate well and heat for an additional 30 seconds until the chocolate is nearly melted, stirring after each interval.

Could you use cookie butter instead of peanut butter? My daughter has a nut allergy. Or anything else?
Jessica Robinson says
Of course! You can use cookie butter or even just dip the entire apple into caramel first, then melted chocolate.
Nina says
Do you flip them over and cover the other side as well?
Jessica Robinson says
Nina,
I dip the entire apple into chocolate. You can either drizzle caramel on the outside of the chocolate or dip the entire apple into caramel first, then into chocolate.

These looks so much better than traditional caramel apples! I always hate how hard those things are to eat. I can’t wait to try these. What a fund project to do with kids.
