I always keep our kitchen stocked with fresh ingredients so I can bake my little heart away when ever the mood suits me. We have a really great butcher block in the center of the kitchen that has a big glass jar filled with powdered sugar and my KitchenAid mixer (which was a wedding gift from my grandparents). It’s a great clean surface to roll out dough or prep sheet pans with cookies. The butcher block also has drawers that I keep kitchen towels and aprons neatly tucked away and cookbooks for easy access.
I have to admit I’m a tad obsessive compulsive and a bit of a clean freak. I don’t allow shoes in the house, love the house clutter free and keep the kitchen perfectly clean. However, with two young boys who love to play in the dirt pile (right outside the kitchen door) and who have the natural ability to track in dirt I’m constantly tidying. I love a simple corn broom and dust pan to clean up the mess the kids track in and a cloth with Murphy’s oil to clean the hardwood floors.
You can get these big glass jars in various sizes at either Amazon or Target. They’re perfect for storing your flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar and other baking essentials. You can use a simple label maker if you choose to label what’s in each jar. I have one cabinet in our kitchen specifically for baking goods. One drawer is organized perfectly with all of the baking utensils, wooden spoons, measuring cups, measuring spoons and zest grater for easy accessibility.
Our refrigerator is always stocked with fresh sour cream, whole milk, whole milk yogurt, eggs and butter for my every baking need. I keep the fridge clean and organized. Because of my need to be very clean, I have lined the top two shelves with paper towels and change them every once in a while. (this grabs any condensation from the milk or juice bottles and dirt from being in my truck on the drive home from the grocery store or farmer’s market)
Lemons are a girls best friend. They add lots of flavor to meats or a fresh glass of iced tea lemonade. Add they are great to have for fresh zest. Plus, use them to clean counter tops and to get the smell of onion or garlic off your hands.
